The founder

Professional Profile

Dr. Marc Abreu is a physician, scientist, and innovator whose career has taken him through some of the world's leading academic and medical institutions. He is a former faculty member at both Yale University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School, where he co-directed an interdisciplinary research group dedicated to the study of the Brain Thermal Tunnel (BTT) — research that helped establish a new scientific perspective on brain physiology and thermal regulation.

His academic journey includes advanced medical education and research at Yale University, Harvard University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Indiana University School of Medicine, where he collaborated with leading experts in neuroscience, medicine, and biomedical research.

Dr. Abreu earned his medical degree from the Escola Paulista de Medicina at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Brazil, where he also completed his residency and specialization in Ophthalmology. His clinical expertise, combined with decades of scientific research, ultimately led to the founding of btt Corp. and the development of technologies designed to transform the understanding of brain health, human performance, and longevity.

Dr. Abreu's most significant contribution is his discovery of the Brain Thermal Tunnel (BTT) — a biological and thermophysical phenomenon that, for the first time, made it possible to monitor human brain temperature accurately, continuously, and noninvasively. This pioneering work established the scientific foundation for an entirely new approach to understanding brain physiology and its role in human health.

Building on this discovery, Dr. Abreu invented and patented the Abreu btt 700 System, an FDA-cleared medical device that has become an essential tool for the assessment and monitoring of neurological and oncological conditions while enabling novel therapeutic applications based on brain temperature regulation.

An internationally recognized inventor and researcher, Dr. Abreu holds more than 116 patents across 60 countries, including the United States and Brazil, and has authored or co-authored more than 30 scientific publications, including peer-reviewed articles, preprints, book chapters, and presentations at leading international medical conferences. His first scientific publication dates back to 1985, reflecting a lifelong commitment to scientific innovation.

In 2025, Dr. Abreu co-authored the peer-reviewed publication describing the first documented case of complete functional reversal of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) using Computerized Brain-Guided Thermal Therapy (CBIT). The case represents a significant milestone in neurodegenerative disease research and has drawn international attention to the therapeutic potential of brain temperature modulation.

Pioneering work in brain thermodynamics

As Medical Director of the btt Medical Institute, Dr. Marc Abreu leads one of the world's most advanced centers dedicated to brain thermodynamics and btt technology. His work focuses on translating decades of scientific research into innovative treatment approaches for patients facing complex neurological and oncological conditions, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and various types of cancer.

Every patient evaluation is guided by btt's commitment to combining scientific rigor, personalized care, and pioneering technology to explore new possibilities where conventional approaches may have reached their limits.
